PROMOTING THE COLOURS OF THE NHL.

CIL Paints had formed a joint venture with Canadian Tire to promote a new initiative called ‘Team Colours’. This is where you can buy the paint colours of your favourite NHL team for those die-hard fans. PPG, the parent company of CIL Paints, engaged Graymatter to develop a logo for the venture and brochure that would be featured in the Canadian Tire stores.

The selected logo features a dynamic representation of a paint roller leaving a trail of grey paint, with a stylized ‘Team Colours’ wordmark overtop. The CIL, Canadian Tire and NHL logos are all incorporated into the design, creating a lock-up that can be easily applied to all marketing materials. We then embarked on the creation of the brochure, selecting a size and format that would enable us to layout a full overhead view of a hockey rink on the inside with the team jerseys and colours separated by conference. The outside of the brochure utilizes a moody image of a hockey stick surrounded by all of the NHL team logos.

Bringing an advantage to life with digital animation.

After successfully launching this campaign, PPG then engaged Graymatter to develop a digital animation to promote their CIL Smart3 line of premium paint products. The advantage that was to be communicated was the additional coverage you get with the premium paint, making it more economical choice than the leading competitors paint. The 30-second animation featured a paint roller dipping into the tray of paint and covering the walls of the room, while a roll counter tabulated the number of rolls for both paints. The equation is revealed to show the cost savings of using the Smart3 paint, along with the the concluding statement. The animation was used as part of a online marketing campaign.
