LAUNCHING A NEW DIGITAL INITIATIVE FOR THE RETIREMENT LIVING CATEGORY.

The Ontario Retirement Community Association, ORCA, is non-profit association that represents operators of retirement residences in Ontario. Since 1977, ORCA has been the voice of Ontario’s retirement communities, advocating for a standard of operational excellence in the sector.

ORCA began working with Graymatter in 2009. When we first formed a partnership, they were looking for a company that could manage their brand and develop their website assets on both the public and member side of the organization. Graymatter designed and developed both websites, and provided general design and marketing support for years afterwards. We developed brochures, marketing and trade show materials, and various brand design elements for the organization.

The organization embarked on launching a new initiative called CORE, a one of a kind collaborative data service, providing information on retirement home operations, sales and marketing metrics, financials, including revenues and expenditures, and more. They engaged Graymatter to develop the new brand identity for CORE, as well as its stand-alone website, and marketing materials. After going through an extensive exploration, the chosen logo features pixels stemming from the end of the word mark to reflect its digital platform. This was then carried through to other assets as a key visual element that represented the brand. The design utilized a contemporary colour scheme of rich grey, soft blue and lime green across all of its communications.

We have lift off. The effective use of illustration over stock imagery.

For the website, an illustrative style was selected to give them the versatility to create custom communications that would stand apart from the normal stock imagery of seniors that is so over used in the industry. The rest of the site design was compartmentalized to convey the basis of the initiative and why it would serve as such a valuable tool for the industry. CORE is poised for strong growth and expansion for years to come. It endeavors to be the leading source of data, research and analytics for seniors housing owners, operators, developers, investors and others interested in understanding the growing housing and care needs of Canada’s seniors.
